In a rather dim afternoon session, took some experimental shots to highlight this challenge.

The first shot is of my neighbor's cacti. The thorns look pretty formidable:



The second is our fence made of vinyl strips interwoven into a chain link base:

Both are good, but I like the cacti better. The symmetry of the thorns in the vertical lines sells the shot for me.

Thanks for your comments. I hven't been going out potographing very much recently, your challenge offered me an opportunity to breathe some fresh air.

As for the first photo, all I can say is ouch! There was a program on the Discovery Health channel a couple nights ago where a young girl fell down an embankment into a cactus garden. She had thousands of cactus thorns all over her body. Her parents would not allow general anesthesia. They finally ended up using body hair removal wax to remove the thorns. Muchas ouch!!

I have heard the fence in the second photo referred to a hurricane fence. They are popular around industrial complexes and come in a variety of colors.

I believe I have a couple cactus shots from last summer. I'll post them so you can take a look.
