I had to return to North Arkansas today for a reminder there is one final path we all must tread.

Condolences, Paul.

Was this just before an impending funeral, or after the mourners had left? Your shot conveys the emptiness on looking out of the back window as one is driven away from a sad occasion.

Paul,

Shot conveys the loneliness wonderfully. Devoid of people and cars it is a stark reminder of our final destination.

My condolences. I agree with Alan and Selvin. The loneliness is definitely portrayed well.

Thank you for your condolences and comments on the photo. My uncle lived a very long, productive life and was blessed with good enough health to still be playing 18 holes of golf a day a month ago, so the services and attendant family gatherings were much more a celebration of a life well lived than a period of great sadness.

The photo was taken before the arrival of the rest of the family. Visually, there were a couple of things I liked about the setting that I tried to use--the interplay of shadows and light caused by the overhanging tree and the long, slightly uphill curve up to the gravesite.
