The Honda US Open of Surfing is being held here this coming weekend. They've been setting up along the pier for the past 2 weeks. The event is not only for surfers but skateboarders and BMX bikers. Huge crowds every year. Although it doesn't appear like it, due to the WA lens, I'm less than 10 feet from the light pole and US Open sign.

Canon 5D, 16-35 2.8L at 26mm, f/22 (max), ISO 400, 1/100th sec. Used a tripod.

Although this qualifies, I like your other shot (Kayaks) better.

Something you might want to try, Walter, is an extreme closeup with that wide angle lens. Leave the aperture closed down so that you get the background in focus. Extreme closeups with very wide angles lens tend to distort the closeup subject and make it look disproportionately large.

Here's a different angle, looking down the pier.

Walter,

Love the perspective of the second shot better than the first. Personal preference entirely.

I prefer the second shot, too. More inviting.
