I have spent many hours in around the ponds and sloughs created by the rivers of Washington State. They create habitat for many species. Once they were the dominate feature of the area's lowland valleys, drained and filled, they are now only an aside in most valleylandscapes. This scene is along side a major highway, yet, I have seen bald eagles, beaver, otter, great blue heron, coyote, elk and kingfishersfrom this one location.

Beautiful shot, Philby. The colors are superb. That beaver den looks like it has been there awhile. Do you know if it is still active? Is there a beaver dam nearby? Given the opportunity, I think I would spend a lot of time and digital film in that spot.

Calr there 2 dams, one up stream and one down stream of the lodge. Both are several hundred yards form it. I see beaver there quite often. The lodge is the size of a small house,it has been there for years.
