Here is another shot from our trip to the zoo a couple of days ago.

This owl is not on display, but is in training to become part of an educational show.

Hello Mugmar

Wow, what big EYES you have.... I must admit, this fellow looks both quite fiercesome as well as "wise"! I just don't think I'd want to be on the wrong side of him / her.

The detail of the features and colour is great. My only small suggestion for improvement is that it appears to be quite noisy (high ISO?)... particularly noticeable in the background and actually in it's eyes. Maybe a bit of post processing / noise reduction would help.

But still a fantastic photo. Good dof and expression!

Paul

Spectacular! How far away were you and what lens did you use?

Thank you all for the comments. Yes the shot is a bit noisy. I used ISO 3200 since the amphitheather is covered and the lighting was not the best and I did not want to miss this chance!! I was using the Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 L lens and had to hand hold it. The trainers were afraid the tripod might scare him because thebird is in training and not part of the show. We were invited to stay and watch the practice. We were about 20 feet away, and I did do some cropping to get rid of some distractions in the background.
