These birds were great show offs for picture taking. A cormorant drying his wings.

A blue heron. He let me get quite close. He was quite a large bird although he doesn't look it in this picture.

Hi yesterday!

Both lovely captures of indeed those "show off" birds.

The first photo is particularly sharp and has nice contrast! The green heron in the 2nd photo... are they quite timid by nature?

Thanks for sharing!! Lovely shots.

The detail in thefirst shotis fantastic. (it looks more like an Anhinga to me)

You were really lucky to get that close to the Great Blue Heron. My luck is as soon as I am ready to take the picture, they fly off, or when I have the "wrong" lens on the camera, they do a nice slow fly-by:angry::-)

Thank you all for you your kind comments. This year when we went to Florida I tried concentrate on something other than Disney soI triedbirds. They're so much more showy than they are in New Hampsire.

Cool shots. They're MUCH larger than the birds in NH, too.

Very nicely done. I have a couple of those "wrong" lenses and really know how to use them! Usually, the right lens is about a half-hour hike away!

Thank you all for your comments. The camera was Sony's H5 with the native Carl Zeis lens. It's not a DSLR but it does a pretty good job.
