Believe it or not, I had to study this for a few minutes to figure out what you did. The blue hydrant is not that unusual a sight. I've seen fire hydrants in red, blue, yellow, white, and even painted up as little soldiers! Then I realized you changed the ball, also. Good work. Did you use the color replacer tool or a different method?

Yep, I used the color replacement tool in Photoshop CS3. To get there I also used the magic wand and quick mask (with the eraser and brush) to isolate the ball first and change its color then all over again to replace the hydrant color. It had been a while since I played with any of those so it took me about a half hour.
