This is our Christmas cake. Its baking and decoration had to wait this year until grown-up daughter arrived to stay just before Christmas. Since she was a tiny girl, she has delighted in its construction and decoration.

The musical theme of the decorations symbolises the frequent and assorted ensembles of instruments that assemble in this house and down the road at mother-in-law's, every year, over this holiday, for widely varied seasonal and other performances.

Besides your company Alan, a visit to your house about now would be well worth it for a piece of that cake. Im not much good at cooking cakes so I dont try. No dessert at the Bynx house this year so your cake looks that much more appetizing.

Wow, that does look tasty and as always, the extra information you add always makes the image extra special.

Tell me about the frosting....it's looks like there are two layers.

We call the "frosting" 'royal icing'. Our household recipe is icing sugar, egg white, and a little lemon juice. 'Glacé icing' also commonly found on cakes, is just icing sugar and water.

The yellow underlayer is marzipan, otherwise referred to as 'almond icing'.

It looks very inviting. Wish I could have some but, alas, I fear it's too late!
