Hi all

In a minute you all get a sneak preview into what novel I'm reading at the moment...

Can you guess from this photo? Here the focus is on the stray lily (I think it is!) that popped out of my garden a week ago, right near my orange tree.

The black plastic just behind it (the flower), I used to cover the soul around the base of my orange tree, to discourage grass (re)growth there. Worked well!

Photo 1...

and now the focus moves to the foreground...

.... so the book is .....

(the crowd waits with baited breath....)

Terry Brooks: The Sword of Shannara!

Cheers,

Paul

I have neither heard of the author or title but your selective focus treatment fits the challenge very well.

What type of books does Brooks write? My favorite authors are Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, and Clive Cussler. I believe Crichton passed away just recently.

Idont know the author but do recognize the cover. Artists called the Hildenbrant brothers (Identical twins) painted and illustrated many books in their time, (the seventies.) They also did a whole series on the Tolkien world, Hobbit etc. I believe they are from New Jersey. btw good selective focus Paul.

I ended up missing out on this challenge altogether. Am regretting it as I love shots like this.

Great job on the selective focus. Haven't ever heard of the author or book, but I'll have to check my Tolkien books and see if I have any artwork of the Hildenbrandt brothers.

The Sword of Shannara should have been called the first installment of a never ending tale. I read this book and a few other books and the story just kept going. I ran out of steam though. I think its still going on. As for the Brothers Hilldebrandt they are really good illustrators. I have a number of books of their artwork as well as all the Tolkein calendars they put out in the 70s. You took the challenge and included a nice subject for discussion. Thanks PJ.
