My town is known for it's apple orchards. We have 4 major orchards and several smaller ones. People come from miles around in the summer and fall for the 'Pick-em-yourself' fruits. In the earlier summer it's blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. In the late summer and fall, it's peaches, pears, apples and pumpkins. This picture is one of the 'pick-em-yourself' stands for the Mack orchard. The Macks have been farming in Londonderry since 1732. Much of the land that our public buildings stand on has been donated to the town by the Mack family over the last 275 years.

This picture is from the Woodmont Orchard. The fanon the right side of the picture is one of several that is used in the early spring and later fall to keep frost from forming on the flowers and fruit. Once again not a pretty picture but we are still getting snow. A footlast Monday. Honestly, it is a pretty town in spring and summer. Another method used by a different orchard is to spray the flowers or fruit with a fine mist. Somehow, this also keeps the frost from settling on the plants.
