This sculpture is located in Junction City, Kansas. It honors the members of 9th Cavalry Unit comprised of former slaves and free black men who originally served with Union troops during the civil war. They went on to serve with distinction during the westward expansion and were given the name "buffalo soldiers" by Native Americans with whom they came into contact. Junction City is close to a major army base and members of the 9th cavalry served at Ft Riley. I was looking straight up at the soldier and his horse for this shot.

While I was at the Buffalo Soldier monument I decided to mess around with an "upsy" shot of a nearby flag on a pole. I was lying on my back at the base of the pole shooting straight up at the flag. With my knees it was fun getting back up! (NOT)
