I set the shutter speed well below the screen’s refresh rate of 75 Hz to avoid scan lines on the monitor. This is one of the few times that I had the camera tethered to the computer. The USB cord provided was way too short to be very useful.

The Wacom Tablet is a must if all you have available is a ball mouse, but I find that an optical mouse is accurate enough for most image editing, except writing. I can barley do that with a regular pen or pencil and hate to ruin a print by writing my uncontrolled scribble over it. I sample a an appropriate color, make a new layer, sign my name in large scrip, resize and move it to a corner.

I never tried shaving with the card reader, do you think that would introduce additional noise to the images?

What caught my eye was the book "useing photoshop 5" Dude time to upgrade!

Alan - You dont have to be any good with a paintbrush or pen (I'm not) to benefit from a wacom tablet. It simply allows you much more control. I baught mine mainly because I'm left handed. but I'm sure it would make anyones life easirin photoshop.
