Everything outside the beam of light should be much darker to indicate night and the transition between the edge of the beam and the darkness should be more definite. But I was wondering how to go about doing a vignette transition from color to B&W and your way seems to work well. In fact very well.
Maybe darkening the B&W area is cheating.
