Our downtown before dawn Saturday. The holidays are around the corner.

That shot looks the start of setting up for the Christmas holidays, just waiting for more to come.

I have a shot similar to this in my archives, however I wasn't thinking holiday season at the time. I was just looking for some abstract shots at the time.

Nice idea.

The moodiness of the shot made me reflect on all the downtown areas I have visited over the years -- and the devastating impact of the malls, Wal-Marts, Amazon, etc. Of the more than 500 that I have visited in connection with my business, more than half of the downtown areas had many empty stores and storefronts in need of repair.

It was the civic-minded local business owners who contributed mightily to community events and charities -- and who made civic clubs vibrant and relevant. Looking around today, its rare to see a thriving business that is locally owned.

So sad.

Thank you everyone! Walter, your words ring so true with our town! When I was a kid this is where everything was happening, then came the by-pass and then the malls. All that is left uptown is the court house and law offices and empty shells of what was.
