Happy New Year.

I like the features in his face, it really tells a story. The frame in the background is just a bit distracting though.

I really like the gentleman's face. It has sort of a Clint Eastwood type feel to it--rugged and strong. Lighting is good. Like Mugmar, though, I find the frame distracting.

Bynx: that's a great portrait.
To me, the frame is part of his life, as the couch, the shirt and the three days beard.

i like the character in this shot. thought i would give it a b&w treatment and see if it emphasizes that character. i think both versions have merits. nice candid portrait.

When I worked on this pic I was really pleased the way it came out showing the detail of the fabric texture and every little hair. He lives alone in a sparely furnished apartment. Plastic tubing snaking over the bare floor supplying him with his oxygen. The picture behind him is the only wall decoration. Here is the original untouched version.

Something about the original image has bothered me...almost like it's been way over sharpened. I didn't care for it at all.

To me the untouched version is much more appealing.

Vsch, I couldnt agree with you less. The original did nothing for me at all. I didnt like the lighting or the lack of details. After spending some time on it the results really pleased me. And the good thing is, I only have me to please. If anyone else likes it, thats just a bonus.

Very nice!! When I look at this portrait I see the face of a man who has worked hard all his life, I bet his hands are calloused and rugged as well!

Hmm... Now that you posted the original, I can see vsch1's point. In comparison with the original, the processed pick seems quite burned and flat. I played with it for a minute. Don't kill me!
