Default Making Music: The shamisen

This shot gives a good idea of what the Japanese shamisen looks like.
It's a three stringed instrument similar in some ways to the American banjo. The name literally means "three flavor strings."

WOw, nice pic, Selvin! She reminds me of my fourth grade teacher who was from Japan. Lovely colour, the shamisen I am sure, make take some real skill.

No, that was in the States. I have been living Finland for nearly 6 years... I am not a Finn, I don't live and breat for staying in sauna at 190+ degrees and then jump in a hole in the ice... All the best. Ned

Nice selvin. Cloths are awesome. This is a pick from the book: Les instruments de musique du monde entier, by Diagram Group. Shamisen seems to be asociated with fun!

Thanks for your comments.
The lady above was wearing this colorful Kimono duirng a parade lasting some 1.5 miles and still smiling at the end.
Fortunately this was a modern day Kimono rather than the old fashioned heavy silk ones which were a torture to put on and wear.
