Default Things with wings - wind chimes

I saw these today in a kite shop (uhoh... kites... another idea for the challenge) - lots of different wind chimes with different wings. I'll show you some:

Since they don't chime, let's call them what they really are...Whirlygigs!

Nice shots.

Those are some pretty striking designs. Good collection of shots showing off these flights of fancy.

Hello Cal,
I was about to write a longer PM... but then I found, that "Whirlygig" is indeed a word to describe them, maybe rather "whirligig" or even "spinner". Coming from the german word "Windspiel" the dictionaries only give me "wind chime", though. But I think I know what kind of wind chimes you mean and those are different, hm.

Another new word I learned by reading and posting here Thanks for your comment!

Oh, and a hint... for the direct translation of "Whirlygigs" into german you might want to look here --> http://www.dict.cc/deutsch-englisch/%5BHoden%5D.html ... so you MIGHT get some suspicious looks if you use that word without further explanations.

Kind regards,
Th.

Hello Selvin,
yes - we like that kite shop very much and I am tempted to make a lil' series, but most shop owners don't like photographers that much, as they fear other people will copy their ideas when they see the pictures.

We already have a small collection of these spinners in our garden and my wife bought 2 new ones right away

regards,
Th.
