Default Sports - Don't know what it is, but it sure looks fun

Saw this guy as I was riding through the park. The advantage of my current camera (EPL1) vs my old point and shoot? I was able to stop my bike, squeeze off half a dozen shots of this guy and be on my way in the time it would have taken my point and shoot to boot up. Maybe a true DSLR would be faster, but the EPL1 is fast enough for me right now. Take care.

I think it is a skydiver who just made a successful landing and is trying to wrestle his parachute to the ground.

vsch1, calr, thanks for the replies. I think that vsch1 has it. That picture was snapped after he started with the chute on the ground and let it catch the breeze. He spent the next thirty seconds or so trying to keep it from dragging him across the open field before it came back down. I didn't stick around after that, but on the way back from my turn around, he was still at it.

Thanks again.

Nice shot G.E.S.

Yeah, in films they make it seem like such a quick and easy process.... and like many things in life, it's probably not quite like 'that'.

About the photo, I love the energy and feel to it.... maybe a bit of extra saturation, brightness, contrast and slight crop might help (hope you don't mind the edit).

Yep, I second what bynx said. I just purchased a couple kites to pull me around on my snowboard this winter. The first time I flew one, it drug me across two soccer fields on my ass, and it was only about a quarter of the size of this guys kite...

What's the difference between hang gliding and paragliding? I was told recently that with one there is usually a cliff involved.

Hang gliding usually involves a cliff or hill for launch and uses a rigid frame wing shaped kite. Paragliding uses a foil kite, basically a parachute, and wind power for launch.

Ya hang gliding is with a rigid metal frame kite. Paragliding is basically a special shape parachute that is designed to give lift. There are two controlling lines to spill the air so you can lose elevation. There is also another style where you basically sit in a deck chair with a motor and prop on back. That will give forward propulsion if the wind isnt right. And you use the control lines to steer. Paragliding is pretty neat with the latest Ultralight which comes in a backpack which converts to your seat. All for about $3,000.
