Default Animal Antics - Resourceful Squirrel

Well, this is a new one on me.
I've had a bird feeder hanging just outside my office window for the last 2 years. It allows me to take close up photos of various backyard birds. In that time, I've never had a squirrel get to the feeder as my office is on the 2nd level and below that is nothing but the garage. I've always thought it was squirrel proof.
Guess i was wrong:

Nice pic. The squirrels at my house have a motto... "Where there's a will, there's a way." And with them, there is always a way.

Great shot. Yes, squirrels are extremely resourceful. I saw a documentary on one of the cable channels a few years ago where they constructed an "extremely" squirrel-proof bird feeder. It had all kinds of mechanical contraptions to foil the squirrels. They set it all up, loaded the feeder, and sat back and watched.

The squirrel showed up right on cue. He tried a couple of the more obvious approaches and failed. He then studied the situation for a few minutes. He then climbed up to a branch above the contraptions and with a couple well planned hops, he landed on the feeder and had dinner.

Hi Laurie/Cal,

thanks for commenting.

I enjoy watching Squirrels trying to solve a problem. In addition to being smart, they also are feisty which makes them even more fun to outsmart.

I'll just have to come up with another plan.

Nice capture, Zig

Glad you could get the photo (do you always take a camera to work?)

Squirrels are cute creatures (or is that 'critters'? lol) They certainly have a cunning and curious nature.

I remember seeing them in London when I lived there. Don't really have any here in Australia (but we have other wildlife).

Thanks for sharing! I like how it is holding its paws.

Good morning Paul,

Thanks for the kind words.

As for taking the camera to the office, my apologies for not being clearer. This is my office at home. (I'm retired)..........

As much as they practically suck the seeds from the feeder, I will admit they are fun to watch.
