Default Animal Antics - PolarBear

Whenever my family and I pass through Omaha, we always stop at the Henry Doorly Zoo. During one hot July day at the zoo, we came upon this polar bear cooling off in the water doing the backstroke.

Any one passing through Omaha should visit the zoo. It is well worth the (low) price of admission.

Hey, this is a cool photo. It almost looks like the bear is waving to you too!

They're swiming and backstroke champions!

I wonder, how well (ie how comfortably) do polar bears survive when it's not icy cold around them? Even the water it traditionally swims in is much cooler than the water in Omaha, I expect!

I would like to believe the water temperature in the enclosure would be similar to that of the Arctic Ocean/Hudson Bay. Can't do much about the air temperature though the white fur would reflect a lot of sunlight preventing the bear from overheating.
