What more could one say? It's a great entry.

I need to spend some time looking at some Aperture tutorials. I can't seem to get the yellows/magentas down as Bynx suggested without taking away the feel I want. But I do agree with Bynx, it's too much.

I took your original image and laid my altered one on top and ghosted it to 60% so 40% of your image came through.

I have been looking at this image for two days trying to figure out the hat. I finally figured it out all except the top knot. It looks like part of a large pine cone but I'm sure that's not it. So...inquiring minds want to know...what is it?

As to the technical aspects, I don't think color balance is the problem in the original image. I think it is over saturated. Bynx's first edit just replaced one problem with another. I actually like the BW version the most.

Looks good.

It's kind of like a Chullo hat but is fleece lined without a knitted exterior and a top that's a bunch of loose material tied in a knot.

Typical Chullo hat:

Excellent conceptualization. The image catches the sense of possibilities in life.
I think the color problem in the original is mainly just from too much saturation. The only other quibble I have is with the left hand - the position and spacing of the fingers is awkward. Nothing to do with the photography, though.

Certainly a nice idea. I like the composition.

However just as brian said above, the fingers spaced apart speak 'tension' rather than 'relaxed' or 'adventure'.

Colour wise, I also think a bit too much saturation. Bynx's is an improvement imho, but maybe a tad too 'cool' (too blue).

Thanks for sharing.

I agree Paul, Bynx version is a huge improvement.

I actually like the fingers as I was thinking "apprehension".
