Default Bodies in Motion: Fire Dance

A few months back we were on the island of Kauai attending a Luau (Polynesian themed feast and show) and was able to catch the twirling of the fire sticks in the hands of the dancers in this archival shot.

Enjoy:

Fire dancing is so awesome! My nephew does this, but I've never been able to have my camera when he's performing at night. Great photo.

Wonderful shot! Did you use a tripod, or are you that capable? Really love this one!

spedangie, Ordo, mtngal,

Thanks for your kind comments. I was prepared for this event with my camera (Sony A700).

The camera was handheld with 1/2 sec exposure at F8.00 and 6400 ISO and 60mm focus.

I did take about 20 photos and obviously this was one of the better ones. Using those settings have been fairly successful in taking shots like these IF the subjects are not moving around too much. Despite the very high ISO the Sony A700 was able to provide a creditable image and its built in image stabilization obviously also worked well since no noise reduction software was used.

Aloha
