Walter,

I've seen that shot or similar before. Nonetheless, it is a spectacular example of backlighting. In this case the silhouette of the pier created by the backlighting adds quite an impact.

Humiliatingly beautiful.

Very pretty! The sky sure adds to the picture, a lovely sunset.

Selvin, I've taken about 1,000 shots of the pier at sunset. While it is possible you have seen this one, perhaps in another forum, chances are you haven't. The backlighting, especially in the clouds, begged to be included in this challenge. Thanks.

Apparently there is a different interpretation of backlighting held by different members of the forum. In my opinion, this is a beautiful silhouette but not a good example of backlighting. In my understanding of back light, the subject(s) should show some direct evidence of being illuminated from the rear. That is not seen here.

I'll say again, this is a beautiful photo, but I don't think it qualifies for the challenge.

Yes, there do seem to be different ideas about backlighting. In this shot the pier is not what makes it special...it is the sky, and the clouds which are backlit by the setting sun.

Point taken, Walter. I didn't look at the back lighting in the clouds. My bad.
