Can I have two guesses for the price of one? 1) Some type of coral? 2) A succulent plant of some type?

These are my guesses. I've seen this thing before but don't recall what it is.

Normally a guess would reduce the possibilities to animal, vegetable or mineral. As most corals are all 3 this would not help. Your second guess makes it a vegetable so that is much closer then the first.

One of the fun parts to photography is showing things we have seen in a new way. So in this case as we have both been around awhile there is a good chance that not only have you seen this before but even at the same place. I will give a misleading hint. If we were at the same place it was near the aquarium.

Looks sort-of like one of the exotic cauliflowers I've seen occasionally at farmer's markets. I like the picture, regardless of what it is.

Close enough. It is Italian broccoli same family. If you like the photo that is what counts not if you like broccoli. I was in Pike Place Farmers Market in Seattle this week. It had been many years so it was time to go back. With my old eyes it was time to look in new ways. Here it is in green.

I just learned something - didn't realize that it was broccoli. I'll have to try it sometime (though not fix it for my other half, he doesn't like any type of broccoli).

The DOF is perfect. It really makes the viewer take a second and third look at the image.
