Default Doors: Kawaiahao Church

An archival shot, this is the entrance to one of the oldest Anglican churches in Honolulu. Built during the period of the early missionaries it is legendary not only because of the age (1836-1842) and historical significance but also according to tradition the coral limestone rocks used to build the facade were quarried by hand from a reef area offshore.
It is reported that 14,000 thousand pound blocks of coral limestone were taken offshore and carried to build the church.

Beautiful church, but I'm a sucker for sacred architecture.

Wow! Thanks for the explanation - I think I would have reacted more like "gee, that's nice" if I had seen the picture without the explanation. Knowing the history and all of a sudden it's in the "wow!" category.

Vsch1 and Mtngal,
Thanks for your comments. This church is also called The Westminister Abbey of Honolulu.
