This is a view of the Niagara River looking north towards Lake Ontario/Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was taken from Queenston Heights (Niagara Escarpment). It was the site of the Battle of Queenston Heights during the War of 1812. The British General, Issac Brock, was killed during the initial stages of the assault on the heights. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_...enston_Heights

During the War of 1812 many battles were fought from Buffalo/Fort Erie down the Niagara River to Niagara-on-the-Lake (Fort George on the Canadian side and Fort Niagara on the American) and along Lake Ontario. This year is the bicentennial and many events have been planned both in the U.S. and Canada.
