Default Animal Lizard

Hi,

I found this little fellow at the base of a tree on the north rim of the Grand Canyon back in May. I am not real sure what he is but suspect a Horny Lizard? (no pun intended)

Bill

I don't think that's a lizard. I believe it is, in fact, a horny toad. Nice shots.

That is a horned lizard (also commonly called a horned toad, but it's really a lizard). I would love to see one but they are so well camouflaged! Great capture of a cute guy.

Actually, this is a Short Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma hernandesi), so named because the spines on the back of the head are markedly shorter than those of the other horned lizards ("horned toad" is a popular misnomer).
