Default Churches and Graveyards--Two Gravemarkers

These two poignant grave markers are located in a small country graveyard. It is near my childhood home and I have many family member and friends buried here. As children we frequently visited and knew the inscriptions on every grave--some date back to the mid1800's. These two sad little home made markers were always special to us. These two children were from the same family and it always broke our hearts that the parents lost both babies. We left many wildflower bouquets in jelly jars on these gravesites. Even today, when we clean and decorate family/friend's burial sites we always leave something for the two little Snells.

Poignant is right. Things like this don't leave your heart.

You're right--they certainly have never left mine. The family obviously had very little money, but took the time to mark the final resting place of both children. This was the time that influenza was very bad in this area, I have never been able to find out if that figured into the death of either of these babies.

These are very touching, life was tough back then, especially for the very young.
