I've got one of those sitting on my coffee table. It has logged a lot of time and too many crashes to count. The only damage it has suffered is a few small nicks on the rotor blades and a broken gimbal on the upper rotor. I purchased a spare parts kit and rebuilt the upper rotor assembly.

The original battery got to the point it would only work for about a minute. I replaced it with two new batteries connected in parallel. It required some modifications under the cowling and adding some weight to the tail to balance. It now flies for about 20 minutes on a charge and still crashes just as often as before!

I wish I could fly it outside but sunlight interferes with the IR control link.

Cal,

I'm surprised the sunlight interferes with the IR control. I wonder how those wizards I see flying theirs around in bright Honolulu sunlight get it done?

Ramcewan,

In any event that's a nice shot showing the rotation of the blades.

Selvin, There are two different types of remote control systems. One uses radio frequency (RF) and the other uses infrared line-of-sight, same as your TV remote. Radio control is not affected by sunlight. Infrared is affected since there is a large component of IR in sunlight.

The remote control aircraft you are seeing are, no doubt, radio controlled. A giveaway is the big antenna sticking out of the control box. An IR control box has no antenna but, instead, a little window.

Hope this helps.

We have a few of these. They are tough little things. Nice shot, love the rotors in motion.

Thanks everyone for checking it out. It took a little experimentation to get the aperture and shutter to where the rotors were visible but blurred to show motion.... I may try getting a shot in the air... So stay tuned

That looks like way too much fun, it shouldn't be allowed. Great shot, and I'll be watching for the one in the air, too. Did I say that I wish I had one of those?

If you want to purchase one of those "beauties", don't go to your local store. They charge about double what they're worth. The is an online vendor we are all familiar with (starts with "A") that has them for half the price of the local retailers. If you don't know who I am talking about, PM me.

If anyone considers this message as spam, let me know and I will delete it.
