Default Falling Water-Pillsbury Crossing

These photos were taken at Pillsbury Crossing on Deep Creek, near Manhattan, Kansas. Deep Creek has a "low water ford" area that was used during the 1800's as a way to cross the creek before there were any bridges. The creek has a natural very flat limestone shelf which is only a few inches deep during normal water flow. It looks as if someone paved the area, but is entirely due to the luck of mother nature. The creek becomes deeper on one side of the road and the other side has an area of collapsed limestone that forms a low falls area. One picture is at ground level and the second is from above. The road that leads into the ford is still used today and can be seen at the top left portion of the ground level photo. While I was there several vehicles including a UPS van utilized the ford.
It's very popular with local residents in the summer so I had to get there early to get some "people free" photos.

A very pretty area, I can see why it is popular.
