Beauty #3.
One thing I noticed was that all 3 had good tires and rims. Like lipstick on a pig?

Glad to see that not everything needs to be restored to perfection.

I can attest to their ruggedness. Once rode in one of those things going up the slopes of Jamaica's highest mountain (Blue Mountain). We drove over mud roads, dirt road, gravel roads and forded shallow rivers. It never missed a beat. Unfortunately we had to walk the remaining half of the trip up to the top but have admired them since.

I always thought it would be great fun to have one of the VW vans that had been converted to a camper. Amazing that they are still going strong.

If they were restored someone would promptly steal them, keeping them looking so rough on the outside probably discourages thieves.

I think there's a growing group of people who don't feel any desire to shine up a garage queen, from the above to more extreme guys, like the rat-rodders. While a few don't seem to like it much, I'm more about function than absolute beauty... a good trait when I have to look in the mirror
