There is a little bit of faded red and faded green but they are not the main subject of the photo. The main subject is the thorny stalks.

In my country of residence, red and green themed holiday displays are found mainly in malls and hotel lobbies frequented by Christian foreigners. Didn't want to shoot there. I'd photographed these thorn bushes a few days earlier and got the idea of using them for an anti-Christmas card. I wanted to play with that idea and see if I could do it with humor.

Difficult people and situations are sometimes described as 'thorny' so I imagined a scrooge resonating with them. I figured he'd have the same 'bah, humbug' attitude toward cheerful holiday colors as the holiday. Accordingly, the foliage was desaturated, sized and sited in frame to make it both not the subject, but only in frame because Scrooge couldn't find a POV to exclude them. Finally the wall color is ugly, something one rarely sees in Christmas cards. Wouldn't bother a scrooge. Voila! A photo for an anti-Christmas card?

I have to agree with Cal that the red and green are not the major focus. But I see your point about making a Bah humbug Xmas card.
Some suggestions would be to do some judicious cropping and photograph some slightly wilted green foliage and red flowers rather than desaturate them while contrasting them with the thorns.
