Default morning, yavapai point grand canyon, az

morning, yavapai point grand canyon, az

I took this shot two years ago, but I only recently dug it out of many shots I hadn't done anything with and post processed it, so I am asking for a bend of the rules...please

Calicajun, you just need to go. It is a wonderful place. Especially if you can get everyone else to home and stay out of your shot... and the shuttles to get you where you want to be.. Nice shot... I found mornings at the GC a bit frustrating to shoot.

Curmudgeon,

We were there in late April and the crowds weren't too bad, it was hot though, but the rim and the park is so huge it is easy to get away from the crowds, at least that was our experience.

As for the morning shots, yes I was a bit underwhelmed by my results initially too, it was only after I went back to them and applied a better knowledge of post processing that I was able to achieve something like what I posted above. The scale of the distances and the possibility of haze make it hard to get a nice view of what your eye sees. The above shot was post processed with multiple gradient filters to darken the sky and improve contrast in the distance. I then did some heavy shadow recovery and even a bit of paint brush exposure adjustments in the foreground. All of that followed by a healthy dose of noise reduction.

To give you an idea this was the SOOC JPG. Sky is over exposed, as is the "battle ship" formation in the bottom left, and the canyon itself is greyed to a point of looking hazy.

beautiful shot and post processing well done. Love how the early morning light seems to bounce off the stone.

The contrast between the foreground and the background seems to create an unworldly experience as if the canyons in the distance were rising out of the mist.

Really like how you processed this shot - it sure has impact. I loved visiting the Grand Canyon, but found shooting there harder than I had expected.
