Default Water Magic - Pinks

Known locally as "Humpies" these pink salmon are spawning in a mountain stream.

Very nice! I was at Lake Tahoe when the salmon were spawning. An interesting cycle, though it was somewhat sad to see all the dead around.

The first time I saw a movie on this activity I was stunned at the seeming wastefulness of the whole event. But on further reflection I began to realize this is part of the circle of life as played out in these shallow waters.

It is not waste full at all, or sad. Traditionally these fish returned by the millions. They fed creatures and plants throughout the whole forest and landscape. Natural fertilizer from these fish have been traced many miles from the steams from which they spawn. Think of the forest and region as an organism and the salmon as one of the ways it reaches out to the world for its subsistence.

The fish are cool but what I like about this shot are the colors of the rocks on the bed of the stream. Nicely done!
