Default Evidence...there was definately a balloon.......

Took ages setting this up, took it and was happy with the result until I noticed I had left the camera on ISO 1600 after messing about...DOH! ops:

Still, there is "Some" evidence of a balloon?

Oh well, my first post on this thread...ONWAARRRRDS

Default Timing

C-O-O-L, neat image. How did you setup the timing??????

Wow, I am impressed with the technical aspects of this shot - well done.

Thanks Rod. I basically filled balloon with water and tied up over bath. Had camera on tripod a splash distance away (6-8 ft). Used 35-135 usm on manual focus @ 90mm. Set to 20 sec exposure at f 27. Set Metz flash to f16, but didnt attach to camera. Pressed shutter, and then as I hit the balloon with a pin, I tried to fire flash a millisecond after. Took 5 shots, (and 5 balloons ) this was the best.

LOL

The 20 secs was a buffer time for me to clamber over and past the camera, set up the flash and pop the balloon.

ah makes sense
what time was this taken at? did you "test fire" the flash to make it shoot when you wanted it? and was the flash the only lighting ?

thanks....i'd like to try this.....

also.....by the picture your bath has a beautiful wall

The flash was the only lighting, I had blacked out the bathroom. Try a couple of hand coordination attempts first. You must fire the flash "just" after you have hit the balloon, and I mean pretty much as you pop it. Just keep the camera away from the balloon. Its not worth damaging it!
