Default Color Blind - Feeble attempt as homage to Ansel Adams

Rocky Mountain high

Rocky Mountain High - Black and White

Minimal work done.

1. Photo saved as Grey Scale in PSP7.
2. Bumped brightness 5 and contrast 25.

That's it!

What is not conveyed by this photo is the awesome grandeur
of this sacred place.

No, the location will not be identified...not even the state.

Sorry but it is just too special a place (but if you are a hiker
and would like to join my trip there this summer....send me an IM! )

You almost out-Anseled Mr. Adams! You cheated just like he used to. And he most certainly did cheat in the darkroom, if cheating is what people call knowing what you're doing and also knowing that snapping the picture is but half of the process.

Now that I've gotten the above out my system, I can go on to say that you analyzed this photo very well. The color version is high contrast, and it was a natural for black-and-white, and I really like the way you bumped up that contrast. Film photographers would have done the same, using high-contrast film, developer, and paper.

EDIT: I agree with Rod down below.

Default I am a humble grasshopper

Dear Digicamfan:

I love the black and white photo. The image is strong and the mood it sets is powerful. The image composition is wonderful and full of texture. The tonal range is unblievable from the deep blacks, through the midtones and into the highlights. Further detail is preserved thoughout the tonal range.

The photograph is not a homage to Ansel Adams, it is Ansel Adams all over again - absolutely stunning. I am speechless. I once had the opportunity to view Adams' museum show, The Range of Light. If your image hung in that show, no viewer would have known it was not Ansel Adams.

If you will excuse me, I must go back to my lilly pad floating in the great void of nothing and become a grasshopper again.

Your Humble Servant,

Rod

For some reason, viewing the emotion of the clouds in that grayscale feat of beauty, makes my stomach twirl, and I feel like almost crying for what reason I don't know... it's just too beautiful...
