Vito:

Are you working for pizza hut as a marketing exec? The B&W conversion is good - nice tonal range, texture and detail but I believe food needs color and the color would make an nice magazine image. The oven is gas fired.

Nice shot. Images of food would be a good challenge.

Once I got done chuckling, once I decided you probably burned neither your camera nor your eyebrows, I took a good look. You did an excellent conversion on a photo that had very good composition. The only negative about it is that, most often, food needs to be done in color because a photo of it tends to strike us sensually before all else. Mind you, I said "most often." Certain foods, in particular vegetables such as peppers, have forms that are so graceful that they don't necessarily need any color at all.

Ah, but pizza with its oozing red sauce, cream-colored cheese with touches of crispy brown, maybe an Indian-red slice or two of pepperoni...

That's it. I'm drooling into my keyboard. Over and out.

you know wat.....i think the b/w would look better without the pizza in there and just the inside of the oven.....

btw...the oven WAS on, but i didn't burn myself or melt the plastic of my camera or anything lol

First of all, I think the oven would look better by itself, too. Perhaps I can eat that pizza for you...

I am in the minority here - I do prefer the black and white version. You've managed to transform a yummy-looking Pizza Hut reheat into an old world Italian photograph (if they had used modern ovens, that is). There is only pizza in your first photo (as if "ONLY pizza" isn't good enough Mmmmmm......) - there is charm in the second photo. There's also a kind of yin-yang thing going on between those two pieces of pizza - I can see a Hallmark card coming.

Monkey143, Vito did an excellent job with this conversion. The problem comes in when we consider the intent of a photo. Usually, when food is photographed and the intent is to stimulate more than the sense of sight, color is vital. Since his intent was to zero right in on the notion of taking a bite out of that pizza, he needed it in color. On the other hand, had his intent been to downplay the "foodiness" of the pizza and play up the shape and juxtapositioning, then b&w might be the better choice. (Don't forget, I'm more full of opinion than I am of fact. )

OK, so I'm weird (nothing I didn't already know!), but I still prefer the BW, even knowing the intent and tempting of the pizza. The BW, to me, is more inviting (tho I had tuna casserole for supper so I'm not really hungry). It's just warmer, tho I know that doesn't sound right, given the heat portrayed in the color version.

Vito - what, only two pieces at each meal!??!!
