My apology to you, DX6490, for continuing this complete side road in your thread, but I just can't help myself here. I checked the links, Bradg, and they're both several years old. If digital backs have made it into the realm of consumer-level prices, I've missed it. Does anyone here know if anything ever came of it?

Wow - Your K1000 is so nice and clean! Mine is not. As for conversion to digital back, my Pentax *istD setup, including 1GB microdrive, 24 rechargeable AAs, two Gemini lenses with bag, and camera body itself was "ONLY" $1500. I have no idea how much the K1000 would have cost to convert it, but (1) I was to keep it as it is, for posterity and future use, (2) it's 23 years old, as are the lenses - there are specs and spots here and there and (3) the new camera has so many neat new features. I think the $1500 was well-spent. Maybe to someone who already has a 35mm with bells and whistles that they won't use anymore and have no emotional attachment to, and no extra money (not like any of us really have EXTRA), this might be the way to go if the technology and price allow. Even so, the Digital Rebel KIT is dipping way below $1000.

well that is true.....i'm not sure i need any more than 6 megapixels......it would be nice but i'm not sure if the 11mp stuffed into a 6mp CCD is really worth spending 7,000 dollars more lol

I do not know where this tangent came from, but let me assure you i would not change my K1000 or ME super for anyone. What I said was I could not get a decent photo of my Digital SLR with my sons Point/shoot. I did take one with the ME but haver to wait till I take 23 more on the roll.

DX, you will LOVE your new Pentax! Even with the limitations (but I went ahead and spoiled myself with new lenses anyway!)
