Default Contrast- Sharp and Dull

This is the second of two ideas I had suddenly for this week's challenge. For this picture I upped the contrast a tad and sharpened it.

Nice pic, I like the DOF, but you americans are far too weapons friendly...I mean that butter knife could spread so much hate!

P.s. I know the knife is for practical purposes, I was joking...

Like Tom with his elephants, you managed to capture a monochromatic scene with excellent definition. The first impression is that of a b&w, but then that little bit of gold lettering is spotted. There's more than just the contrast of sharp and dull here. You obviously used a shallow depth of field and focused on the sharp blade so that the butter knife ended up slightly blurred. If it weren't for the fact that sharp knives came historically before the blunted sort, I'd say the photo portrays the knife's evolution. As it stands, the photo shows sharp/dull, in-focus/out-of-focus, rough/polished, monochrome/color.

Very nice.

Thanks. Vito, about the knife...
It is a limited edition Microtech Dragonfly. It is the only butterfly knife they have made, and it is serial #968 out of 10,000. I have an affinity for Microtech's knives, and have collected several, but this one is my favorite!
Here is a pic of my daily pocketknife, a Microtech Mini Socom Elite, which is #668 of 10,000 made.

As far as us Americans and weapons... Well maybe I like to play with sharp things... SO?

Besides, nothing is a weapon unless wielded as such.
