Default In conclusion to old-photo challenge

We're born with eyes but without knowing how to see. Everything is upside-down; our brains learn to flip the image. We must also learn how to focus. Then, once our fresh little minds figure out these two basics, we start adding what we know to what we see.

Our cameras are hardly more than newborn babes. They can flip the image and they can focus. That's it. They bring no knowledge to a photo--only the viewer of a photo can do this, insists upon it.

This past week's challenge gave us graphic example after graphic example of the difference between seeing and knowing. If we take anything away with us from the past week, it should be that we must turn back the clocks, we must see as babies do, so we can come closer to being one with our cameras.

That is almost Zen-like. Maybe we should start calling you the "Dali-BaBa"

Dali Ba-Ba, having ascended from the rank of Grand Poobah. She is honored and might even be humble now and then. If pushed. Maybe. No one knows.

Oooh. I like that. But let's make it Dahli Ba-bwa, OK? I really liked Gilda Radner.

Ah yes, Bawa Wawa from the old Saturday Night Live.

But I've grown rather fond of being the Grand Poobah. It has such a ring of dignity, don't you think?
