Default DOF: Chess, anyone?

This is a ceramic set that was made for me by my late (first) husband. I think the spiderwebs add something to the character  - these pieces are too detailed to dust every week. Ugh.

I prefer the first and third ones - seems the horse is front and center and the queen is peeking out in those two. The bishop is just sitting there in the middle one - no character.

Remove the chess pieces and put in my radio gear and it looks like my ham shack. Dust and spider webs add to the mystique! I like the first one. You can't go wrong with a horsie picture.

The pictures sure illustrate a very limited DOF!

The tonal range is almost nil on this, so I really needed sharpness on my side to delineate the pieces. Since I now have PE2 and some workbooks (thanks to my new friends here!), I was thinking about seeing what I could do with these, given some spare time.

My vote goes to the second picture. Don't know why, which isn't a whole lot of help, is it?

Barb, no not much help, but a lot of this is just for the fun and opinion of it, right? As Nana said, "to each his own." And we here definately have a wide variety of opinions!

I like the third. I think having the web in the picture adds to the image.

So far, three different people have three separate opinions. This means that we're either going to have a war or that all three photos are, for different reasons, equally good.

Gil, I love it!!!! I bought myself about $200 worth of books through various sources (only paid about a third of their value, tho) and am working through the online tutorial. I think I've inspired my mom to actually open her year-old copy. I can't wait to really dig in - I have a bad habit of reading the manual first, during, and then again later. Thank you so much!!!! Did you get it back, yet?
