I look at the purpose of this challenge being to show how changing the focus of a photo can create a much different subject for the photo, so I won't comment on each individual photo, but I think the two photos do a great job of demonstrating the prupose of this challenge.

Both the cherry blossoms and the memorial make great central subjects, and the focus change creates two photos which are both very viable on their own.

Good job!

I really missed something here. I thought the "no commenting until after Monday" was only for last week's challenge, revealing our family photos after everyone had a chance to guess. Are we really not allowed to post in our own threads at all anymore until Monday? If not, I guess that paddywagon I hear is for me, not you, toners!

I like the building framed by the blossoms. My father-in-law who was an architect as well as an artist always wanted his main subject framed by something interesting in the picture. When I'd take fall pictures of the foliage on the lake behind his house he'd say, "make sure you get that tree on the left with the over hanging branch. It will frame the shot nicely."

Both pictures illustate the point of the challenge very well. Either is good depending on whether you are more into flowers or buildings. I'm a building guy.

My goodness, such an array of notions here!

Yes, the idea is to change the subject or idea of a photo by changing the focus.

No, the no-comment rule only applied to last week's challenge.

Toners, it was definitely a shady act, but not criminal. (To anyone who hates puns: :P )

You must have a magic carpet to travel to Teirra del Fuego. I hope you pack warm clothing and stock up on food ratios. Send us an e-mail when you arrive.

Toners: I have alerted the FBI, expect them shortly!

Thank you for the comments and thank you for the edit. I didn't really do much editing to the picture because I wanted you to see it as it came out of the camera. You can see in my post (above) that I sharpened it up a bit. It was overcast that day. It had rained and rained later in the day.
