An old test pic from last month ... the night I bought the 300D but I still love the look and feel of the focus and DOF:

You have every right to love this photo. The reflections are just as crystaline as are the pieces. This is one of those pictures that, to my eye, absolutely require the shallower depth of field. Just one suggestion: rotate it a degree or two counterclockwise to straighten the horizontal lines.

wat is really cool....is i'm actually trying for a certain effect....and succeeding (for the most part lol) and (for the most part again..)knowing how to do it

i keep confusing yours and dales (cowboy) pictures....you both have some of chess.....and they look similar....both are very nice

The tiny bit of rotation made a huge difference. Your second shot is also excellent. I like the way the DOF effect is so subtle.
