Photos can stay with us for any number of reasons, but most often it's because they speak to us. This is a composition that, though it was created with a particular idea behind it, it's just as likely to say a variety of things to a variety of people, loaded as it is with symbols. The glove filled with a hand no longer attached to a body, the fence, the shattered glass, the aura of its being news because of the television scan lines--symbols such as these end up being filtered through each person's individual experience or even the lack of it. Without going deeply into it, I associate this image with oppression on both physical and philosophical levels.

Default Visual Statements

In totalitarian society, one of the first things you do is get rid the the art and the artist.

Interesting, perhaps a message to all or someone.
