Default Book Jacket: Chained Eagle - not my photos

The original jacket...then...a photo (scanned from a newspaper)
I regret that I am not able to credit the photographer other
than s/he was an AP photographer.

(Then) Lt. Everett Alvarez catapulted into the sky from an USN aircraft carrier, knowing his President had "announced" to the world that he and his fellow naval aviators were wheels up long before their target was reached.

Eight and one half years later, he flew again...homeward bound on a USAF C-141 as one of several hundred Vietnam POWs released in 1973.

This grateful citizen thus humbly conveys in this forum a great admiration and a profound respect for the life (now) Commander Alvarez, USN (ret) has led.

I'm a little lost here, probably because I haven't had the time for many weeks to read a newspaper. I know about the POW's, but are you saying that Alvarez recently died? And the newspaper photo: is it exactly how it appears? Did they release an eagle or is it a composite photo?

Hi Bcoultry

Here is the jist of my book cover...

Though then Lt. Alvarez was a POW for many years, in his
book he relates that he still saw himself an eagle.

As far as the photo goes, it shows an eagle whose name
is Challenger who flew over Arlington National Cemetery.

It is all about a spirit continuing to soar.

Sorry if the reference seemed a bit obtuse...

Obtuseness is usually more a product of the listener than the speaker.
