Two versions of the same subject : candles in a church being shot from the base.

The first onehas been shot with the flash while the other not (since I had no tripod with me some blur have occurred due to the low shutter time ).

I'm probably going to be the opposite of everyone else that posts here, but the first shot is great. The stark white of the wax gives a cold feeling, almost like it is trying to snuff out the small flame hidden within.

I agree with estill. I like the first one the best. Great idea and execution.

Wow - this is super! I like the second one. It has more mystery.

It was well worth the wait.

I'm with everyone else: that first photo is the one. It's not so much the blur in the second photo that it makes it the lesser of the two; it's the low color temperature. Even if the blur weren't there, it could well end up being just another candlelight shot. The first photo, on the other hand, truly creates a landscape, one interpretration being nicely stated by Estill. Another way of looking at it might be as if it were in an ice cave where there's a small place of warmth waiting to be found.

Wow! I never realized candles were such interesting subjects. I can't decide which I like better. The first one is starkand white and cold looking even with the little warm flamein it, but the second is soft and warm all over. Excellent job!

nice shots.....tough choice between the two though

maybe if the "no flash" one was as sharp as the first one....
