The first is a very colourful sunrise over the ocean [not touched up at all]

The second is a very pretty vine we have at our front door, not sure what the name is, but it splashes out masses ofthese flowers towards the end of summer, makes a very pretty entrance to the house.

I'm always surprised at what time people get up for a sunrise shot, but looking at some of the shots they get it's worth it. At the moment the sunrise here is around 4am. Too early for me. :-)

Why are African sunrises and sunsets more beautiful than elsewhere?

What an odd little flower, or is it actually a flower at all? It looks rather like red leaves or maybe pods.

I'm not normally an early riser [and I know i miss out a lot because of that], but i had just got my camera, first trip with it to the beach, so how could i not get up to catch the sunrise. It definitely was worth the effort !!]

Thanks Jack

bcoultry, it is a flower of sorts, grows on a very fragile vine, and I'm not sure what it is, whetherit is indigenous to SA or what, but pretty anyway. here is another sample with it's stamen [I think that is what you call it]

Wow, that really IS a flower. And you know something? I think I like this photo of it better than the first one. It's simpler and it also seems active with that stamen (or is it a pistil? I can never remember) sticking out as if it were the flower's tongue.

That's one heck of an unusual flower. Nice shot...
