ok..nice shots....but i think a good way to take this shot.....is to use simple, primitive, but successful lighting...like a flashlight, pointed right at the rose, or maybe before and on it.....this will throw the background into darkness.,...if you do that with the EXACT composition of the second one....you will have a very nice picture....but if you do do that, watch WB!

good job! the first is nice! i like the reflections a lot!

At first I thought the focus was soft but it could be jpg artifacts. I like the first one best and like Vito's suggestion of extra lighting. Maybe an led spot.

Different strokes for different folks...I prefer the second picture for its composition and ambience.

Posting two photos is perfectly "legal.":-)

looking at the second one again...i do see a stronger light right on it....but there seems to be an ambient light, from the kitchen/livingroom/wherever.....

if i were you...i'd turn off every light in the house except the ones you're using

Hard to do when mom's making dinner, dads watching the baby, and its daytime out! We're actually right next to w aindy that is mostly covered, but yea there is prolly some other lighting in there from outside. Thanks for the tips everyone!
