This year marked the return of real Disc Golf equipment for Special Olympics. The red one stood out so much that I had to get a good shot of it for here.

There is not much along the lines of post processing. I adjusted the exposure to lighten it up, added contrast, used Nikon View to increase the sharpness, and cropped it.

Nice one estill. I just spotted the truck in the background, is it the same one which you took your photo from for the New Angle challenge. :-)

Disc Golf is for those who want to enjoy all the frustrations of Golf, but dont trust themselves to carry around a bag of clubs.

In all seriousness though, it is a game played just like golf. The differences being that you use discs, and you throw them into baskets similar to the one seen here. The discs have been developed to fly much differently than your typical "frisbee." So you have long range drivers, medium drivers, putt and approach discs, some that curve left, some that curve right, some that float, etc.

If you want more information than that check out http://www.pdga.com/. They have a listing of courses and rules. It doesn't take much to get started, you only need one disc (about $10 at almost any sporting goods store) and a course. Courses can be just about anything. The college I went to had one defined, in which the tees were areas of the sidewalk, and the holes were various trees or lightpoles.

I have to put in a shameless plug. If you are in the Tacoma/Seattle area of Washington, check out http://www.mandosdiscs.com. They sold me this equipment (heavily discounted) for use with Special Olympics. They can get you started with the right equipment, and give you directions to local courses.

Jackrussell, That is a different truck. The one last year was only 50'. It was unavailable this weekend, so we were stuck at a 90' one. I'm patiently waiting for the next photo challenge to see if any of my "arial" shots from this weekend apply. If not I'll find another forum for them.

My goodness, Estill, but you're certainly into this sport! I'm not much of one for sports, mostly because about the only thing I'm good at is falling down. I'll have to ask my husband if he's ever heard of disc golf. Do you suppose it's a West Coast sort of thing?

I wouldn't say that all that into Disc Golf, now. I used to play a couple of times per week. This is just a great activity for Special Olympic athletes.

Cool disk golf goal. I've never seen one like that around here. It's very popular in the Chicago area in fact our neighboring town has a9 hole and an 18 hole course. Anyone who's ever enjoyed tossing a frisbee and a nice walk would enjoy this game. Any frisbee will do to get started, you don't really need special disks to enjoy the challenge.
