These are partial circles with the full circles implied. Nikon D100, Sigma 28-70mm zoom.

That looks like a steel cover around a tree (to let water reach the roots and allow a walking area of the public).

Am I right?

BINGO! I don't remember if the grate went all around the tree or not. I chose to photograph only this portion because I thought it would be more interesting.

Excellent thinking. The picture works admirably both on its own and as an offering for this challenge. I like the way it's very nearly monochromatic, thus emphasizing the shape and line.
